Roles & Permissions

The seven staff roles and what each one can do.

Roles & Permissions

Every staff member has a role at your venue, and that role decides what they can see and do.

The Seven Roles

Role In one line
Owner Full control of the venue, including managing other Owners.
Manager Full day-to-day control — staff, settings, and everything operational.
Host Front-of-house: bookings, guest list, seating, and taking payment.
Waiter Floor service: seating tables and placing orders.
Promoter Bookings, guest lists, and payments — but not running the kitchen/bar board.
Runner Order fulfilment: placing and running orders, requesting payment.
Dispense (Bar) Same order-focused role as Runner, for the bar.

A simple way to remember it: Hosts run the front door (booking, seating, taking money), Waiters serve the floor (seating and orders), Runners and Dispense fulfil orders and run the kitchen/bar board, Promoters handle bookings, guest lists, and payments but stay out of the kitchen/bar board, and Owners/Managers can do everything.

Why Something You Did Might "Undo Itself"

DQ Core updates your screen instantly, before waiting to hear back from the server — this is what makes it feel so fast. Occasionally, if you attempt something your role isn't allowed to do, it will briefly appear to work and then quietly reverse itself a second or two later. That flash-and-revert is almost always a missing permission, not a bug. If it happens somewhere you think it shouldn't, ask a manager to check your role.

No Screens Are Locked, Only Actions

Every team member can open every tab and every screen — Tables, Orders, Bookings, and Notifications are all reachable by anyone. What differs by role is which individual buttons and actions are available on those screens, not whether you can get to the screen at all.
